Us
Harold Griffin remains a family run
firm, founded in 1847 by James Griffin when he was 26. James
Griffin was son of a builder and trained as an engineer and
set up business in Battersea High Street as a house agent
and rent collector.
His younger brother William joined
the business, and in 1880 his nephew Harold Griffin a trained
Architect joined the firm.
Harold Griffin was also a member of
the Surveyors and Auctioneers Institutes and set about establishing
the firm as one of the main Surveyors, Valuers and Auctioneers
practices within Battersea, undertaking property management,
residential estate agency, Surveys, Valuations, Architectural
work and occasional auctions. |

| Harold
was a remarkable man with his experience and knowledge the business
expanded and in 1895 they moved into larger offices at 54/56 High
Street, Battersea and in 1910 they opened a City office first at
5 King Street, Cheapside, then 22 Water Lane, Great Tower Street,
before finally moving to offices at 5 Coleman Street EC2 which were
destroyed in the Blitz during the second world war. He not only
worked relentlessly for his clients he was also a generous employer,
a church warden, Master of the Coopers Livery Company in 1932, and
was also a Justice of the peace for the London area.
His only son, Harold Griffin Junior joined
the firm after the First World War, he was a member of the Incorporated
Society of Valuers and Auctioneers. The business was moved to 187-191
Lavender Hill, Clapham Junction, opposite the former Town Hall (now
Battersea Art Centre) where it remains today. Harold Griffin Junior
enjoyed Auctioneering and increased the number of auctions undertaken
and these were held regularly at their offices at Lavender Hill.
He had two sons, Derek and Colin the former undertook residential
agency for several years from an office in Northcote Road. The latter
was a member of the Incorporated Society of Valuers and Auctioneers
and is now a retired Chartered Surveyor who worked from the current
offices at Lavender Hill.
Today Colins daughter runs the firm.
She is a Chartered Surveyor with some 15 years experience in the
property business. The firm now one of the oldest in the Battersea
and South-West London area, and possibly the only one to still be
run by the same family over five generations continuing to offer
a wide range of services. Our services include letting and managing
both residential and commercial property; commercial agency; sales
and acquisition of investments; surveys; valuations; and advice
on leasehold extensions and enfranchisement.
